Investments in the Belt and Road Initiative

The following interactive map shows the Chinese investments in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) from 2013 to June 2020. In this time, China invested about USD 755 billion in countries of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

The most important industries that receive BRI investments are

  • energy (about 39%)
  • transport (about 25%)
  • real estate (about 10%)
  • metals (about 8%).


The regions that receive most BRI investments are:

  • East Asia with 26%
  • West Asia with 21%
  • Sub-Saharan Africa with 20%
  • Arab and Middle East with 15%
